UML can for example add information in the model which can not codded in Java code . I think that Java is a great language but also really poor has soon as you need to describe object relation with other objects and methods behaviors. This additio...

OK I'll bite :-) What you describe is exactly the reason why there was a backlash against UML 5-7 years ago and, by extension, MDD. Fundamentally it comes down to productivity. If the effort required to create and maintain the application increa...

Working with UML has two advantages: 1. UML is well known. You don't have to explain it (more or less). 2. There exists a lot of tools supporting UML as a modelling language. For me it's not a question of "should UML use MDD ...". Right question ...

It is already possible to generate jee annotations from a model using a Jee profile. This profile provides persistence annotations which are saved as stereotypes in the model and displayed graphically. It seems to me that very few are really usin...

UML with light MDD sounds like a "half-solution". I guess no-one is looking for that. On the other hand it seems that UML needs add-ons (like annotations?) to properly support code generation. Generating just the app skeleton is OK, but since it ...

This question could seem stupid but .... Concerning UML modeling which is my domain I have more and more doubt about the need to generate all the code from the model. The class diagram which is usually used to generate the code can generate up to...

Pareto principle for Model driven development

The Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 rule) states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.
This principle applies to many areas, e.g. "80% of your sales come from 20% of your clients" or "80% of your employee performance evaluation will come from just 20% of the items on your daily To-Do list"

What the rule tells us is that in anything a few (20 percent) are vital and many(80 percent) are trivial, and thus, to improve your productivity, you should… Continue

Final release of lbDMF (MDSD via UML / BoUML and XSLT) is out - with printing capabilities!

I have finally released my software and set it to production/stable. So when one has to do with prototyping and database applications, please review. Now printing has been added as an important business task.

To use the UML modelling feature, please download BoUML at http://bouml.free.fr and don't forget to donate :-)

The UML tool is used for the model driven aspect as an input but also I can reverse engineer, thus output to UML and then start MDA /MDSD for existing database schemas to get sim… Continue

MDSD Tooling Index - Cont'd

Well, works been bothering me (not really, but it takes up most of my time lately and I'm glad too), so the work on the index has been stalled for a few weeks already. I will likely not be able to pick up on this before early september. In the mean time, keep me posted on any ideas, suggestions and so on related to what I already announced in my previous blog entry.

Book review of: Breaking the Time Barrier: The Temporal Engineering of Software

I wrote this book to make an impact on the quality of software and to get developers to think how the model starts with the specification and is integral to the application. Someone will capitalize on my work to produce a specification to application tool. That will be model driven software.

Here is another review.
